Challenge: 6. Automating Albuminuria Screening for CKD
Problem: There are lots of medical data available but it require so much work to identify patient at risk, so many patients suffer because of late diagnosis of CKD which becomes untreatable. For research work there are software available which can help to identify patient having certain medical condition but they can't predict the diseases which can occur in near or late future .
Solution: We tried to create software which can automatically check patient data, identify risk factors for developing CKD and filter out patient who are at risk and put this patients at sight of doctors who can further diagnose this patients and help them prevent worsening of condition and in early stages doctors can even prevent its occurrence.
Impact: Our solutions can become so much helpful for doctors for identifying patients which are at risk of developing CKD and can reduce so much manual labour.
Feasibility & financials: We think because privacy concern it would be better if software like we suggest would be tested and integrated with EMR system, this will increase its feasibility. Government can provide financial support for implementation of such project.
What is new about your solution?: Intelligent predictive software are still not there in medical system. In new era this kind of software can really be helpful for improving current medical practice.
What you have built at the hackathon - text explanation + code (e.g. GitHub link): First we simplify the data. Then we gone through published research article to identify risk factors and how strongly they are associated with ckd. Then we assign different scores for each risk factors and define 2 threshold of score for patient at high or low risk.we calculate the patient score and identify patient who crosses the threshold. We tried to create software which can automatically do all this steps but due to lack of software making skills we are unable to create such working software
What you had before the hackathon, please mention open source as well: Problem solving attitude + Medical knowledge (as a medical student) + lots of courage
What comes next and what you wish to achieve: We wish that after studying lots of research we could develop perfect risk factor scoring system and develop smart software integrated with EMR system which can help in early diagnosis and suggest doctor a perfect treatment plan. In this era of AI surely this thing will be there to help doctors.
