Project / product name: CareWorld
Team leader: Heide Mae Balcera
Challenge: 5. Gamifying Managed Healthcare - EDU Automat
Problem: Patients with childhood diabetes may not complete recommended examinations and procedures.
Solution: A cloud-based multi-platform system that tracks treatment progress and support, with engaging game mechanics for both patients and doctors.
Impact: Children with diabetes are incentivized to complete recommended examinations and procedures by collecting friends, and doctors can monitor progress and completion.
Feasibility & financials: The application is available as both a mobile app and web app. It is built using open-source (free) frameworks and tools such as Streamlit. The backend storage uses scalable cloud solutions such as Google FireBase.
What is new about your solution?: This is a system that uses popular game mechanics such as a "gacha system" to improve patient compliance by using incentives and at the same time allow doctors a live view of a patient's treatment progress.
What you have built at the hackathon - text explanation + code (e.g. GitHub link): The entire system was built during the hackathon (business use case, backend database, and frontend UI). Both the web application and mobile application were developed and deployed during the hackathon. Web-app: https://careworld-cee2023.streamlit.app/ Use the following creds username: rbriggs for patient, jsmith for doctor pw: def, abc GitHub Link: https://github.com/Heide-B/mac_app
What you had before the hackathon, please mention open source as well: We utilised Streamlit components for authentication https://github.com/mkhorasani/Streamlit-Authenticator/tree/main We used Canva free images for the collectibles and UI components
What comes next and what you wish to achieve: This can be expanded to other diseases that warrant monitoring, especially for populations that need engagement and compliance. This can easily be adopted by doctors and patients independent of Hospital/Insurance collaboration.
