Project / product name: Dexcom Board
Team leader: Daniel Šulc
Challenge: 5. Continuous glycemic monitoring in intensive care units
Problem: Lengthy collection of blood glucose values, an inconsistent collection system, the impossibility of monitoring patients in realtime, and prompt alerts on critical values. The primary use G6 sensors is singleuser. That means that each patient needs to be monitored separately. This is a very time-consuming operation for nurses and doctors, therefore, there is a need to find a way how to integrate those sensors into the IKEM ecosystem and showcase all patients' real-time information from one place.
Solution: We are displaying real-time data from multiple sensors in one interface, we can manage Dexcom sensors from one Android phone without the need of repetitive logining and logouting. We send snapshots to the FHIR database with the ability to link them to a specific patient and in the future export them into IKEM HIS. This means we can use one account for multiple patients The backbone of our solution is the multiplatform app.
Impact: The care-providing staff can focus on more important tasks rather than on repetitive measuring of blood glucose levels. This would reduce workload of the staff. There is no more need for “active” collaboration of patients. The staff can monitor the glucose level from their PC. Instead of 6 measurements/day, we can obtain a new value every 5 minutes. The technological impact of our solution enables doctors or data scientists to make a variety of statics outcomes due to FHIR database integration.
Feasibility & financials: Right now, our project is ready to go. It needs one device for displaying the dashboard, one device for Dexcom app/accounts management and that’s it. In the “worst” scenario the same Android device can be used both for displaying the dashboard and managing the Dexcom app/accounts. The device for managing Dexcom app/accounts needs to run the Dexcom app nonstop within the Bluetooth range of all sensors. We have a working demo, which has proved the feasibility of our solution.
What is new about your solution?: The whole concept of using Dexcom G6 sensors in this way is new.
What you have built at the hackathon - text explanation + code (e.g. GitHub link): README section included https://github.com/mzdm/dexcom_board Dashboard - Multiplatform application for relatime glucose level monitoring
What you had before the hackathon, please mention open source as well: Research of feasibility of challenges
What comes next and what you wish to achieve: We hope our solution is good and feasible contribution to the current healthcare system. We would like to try this solution for pilot operation in the actual scenario.
